Thanks to Chris George, the image below gives a general overview of what our school yard will look like in only 32 days! Imagine our empty school yard being transformed to include ALL of this!!! Amazing! Unbelievable! We are closer to our dream than we ever thought possible, and that is because of YOU! Thank you for all you are doing to support our Playground Project! The smiles and shouts of excitement from the children will be make it all worth it!

Land Prep Has Begun!
Thanks to Aaron Hillier and Cory Green, the former site of Ridgewood Jr. High will never be the same again! Many of us can remember how we felt when that school was closed, and how saddened we were that it was eventually torn down. But now...it will be a place where dreams come true. It will be a place for our children and families to spend time together, filled with fun and laughter. It will definitely be a place where "kids can just be kids!"

RECYCLING DRIVE AND BEER BOTTLE DRIVE
Mark
your calendars! August 25th
will be a Recycling Drive & Beer Bottle Drive in aid of Acreman’s
Playground Project. Volunteers will be driving through our 4 communities
(Hopeall, Green’s Hr., Whiteway, and Cavendish) picking up any Recyclables
and/or Beer Bottles that you would like to donate. We would ask that you have
them cleaned, bagged, and placed out by your door or at the end of your
driveway where they will be easily spotted. This will eliminate the need to
knock on people’s doors. Your anticipated support is greatly appreciated! Keep
in mind that the MMSB provides schools with matching grants for the recyclables.
Please note: If
you are able to help out with this endeavor please contact Jennifer Hillier at
582-2451. We need trucks, people to pick up and toss the bags in, and
volunteers to clean the ones that require it at the Fire Hall in Green’s
Harbour. Thank you so much.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU!
Our vision would be unattainable if it weren’t for the support
from people like you. So many have given of their time and
talent to host various events in aid of our project. Others have given treasure
directly from their wallets, sometimes even
sacrificing to make our children’s dreams come true. Your support does not go
unnoticed. Your generosity has allowed our 4 little communities to reach $47,021
in only 4 months! Wow! You guys are amazing!
As a result of our expanded vision, our goal has increased from
$70,000 to $75,000! Without your support, in kind and otherwise, this goal
would be much higher. Because of YOU, we can do ALL of this for only $5000
more! Thank you for your continued support over the next few weeks. With only 40 days left, the countdown is on! We are confident that we can do it.....TOGETHER!
Because of YOU...
You see
things; and you say, "Why?"
But I dream things that never were;
and I say, "Why not?”
-George Bernard Shaw
But I dream things that never were;
and I say, "Why not?”
-George Bernard Shaw
Because of YOU, we have been able to dream things that never were; and say, “Why not?”
Because of YOU, we have been able to expand our vision beyond our original one.
Because of YOU, we are able to make our children’s’ dreams a reality.
All because of YOU!
The support of your time, talent, and treasure has
allowed us to provide so much more than we ever thought possible. In the early
stages of this journey, we, as committee members, aimed for a playground. But
as a result of the overwhelming support we’ve received, we are not only going
to provide our children with a playground, but an upgraded soccer field, an outdoor
classroom, a peace garden, and a labyrinth! It is indeed going to be an Extreme
Play Yard Makeover!!! Thank you so much!
Our Vision...Because of YOU!
Playground: As initially planned, we will provide a safe and inclusive playground, complete with picnic tables, garbage/recycling can, and benches. It will be a welcoming place for families to come and connect. As you will see from the NEW AND IMPROVED DESIGN below, there have been a few additions and adjustments. There will now be toddler swings, an inclusive swing and a couple additional standard swings. Because this play area is for ALL children, we have included a wheelchair accessible digger and activity panels that address sensory challenges. There will be a walkway around the inside perimeter of the fencing to allow easier access for wheelchairs and strollers, as well as a place for parents to walk while supervising their children.
Future Site of Playground
Soccer Field: The field will be grubbed off prior to build day and the necessary loads of topsoil will be delivered in time for spreading on September 29th. There will be fencing installed on the front and back of the field as well. So…get your shovels and rakes ready and join us in making this happen!
Existing Soccer Field
Future Site of the Outdoor Classroom (where peastone is)
A
Peace Garden: This will be a quiet place of solitude and
retreat with flowers, shrubs and two park benches. This will be located beyond
the far end of the school, between the soccer field and outdoor classroom. A
huge rock exists there right now, but it is going to be transformed on build
day when it is encompassed with plants and flowers. Just past the rock is a
stream of trickling water which adds to the beauty of this space. Below is a
picture of the existing space and a picture of what a peace garden might look
like.

volunteers, can help us gather for build day!

Small Business Helps in Big Way!
Lorraine Welsh of Nik Naks has proven that you don't have to own a major corporation to make a BIG difference. As owner/operator of this unique little craft/gift shop located in Green's Harbour, Lorraine decided she could help support Acreman's project through ticket sales on various items, and we sure are glad she did!
One Newfoundland & Labrador sparkle bracelet & earring set won by Flora Seymour of St. John's ($75 from ticket sales donated to our project)
A second bracelet & earring set won by Carol Gleason of Bay Roberts. ($80 from ticket sales donated to our project)
Congratulations to the winners! Thank you Lorraine Welsh and thank you to all who supported and made these donations possible. Keep watching for future ticket sales at Nik Naks!
During the month of August, one bracelet and earring set won by Sharon Harte of the Goulds. Thank you for supporting this worthy cause.

Penny Drive and Breakfast = Huge Success!
Penny Drive and Breakfast hosted by the Green's Harbour Building Committee was a huge success! Many people stopped by and supported this worthy cause. The breakfast alone brought in approximately $805.00 and as for the pennies....well, let's just say there were soooo many that they are still counting them! Ian Hill once said, "Great things happen when good people get together and do good things!" So, thank you to everyone who helped make this the success that it was!
Extra! Extra! Read All About It!
Check out today's local paper, "The Compass," and read all about the Playground Project and the Sky Family Concert. Great things are happening! Come and be a part of it all on September 29th, 2012!

So, go out and get a copy of the August 13 - 19 edition and read all about it!
